NATIONAL VETERANS CHAMPIONSHIPS

Marlborough College, April 25/26th

Organiser John Hawke is now accepting entries for the National Veterans (over 45s) Championships, which are making a return to Marlborough College this year. To be held over the weekend of April 25/26th, the tournament will include both singles and doubles championships. John Minta is the defending singles champion, while in the doubles Hamish Buchanan and Bruce Hanton (pictured above) are going for their fifth consecutive title.

Qualifying age is 45 years on or before 25th April 2015, with the Singles event completed on Saturday (start time approx 12pm) and the Doubles played on Sunday (start time approx 10am). There will be Plate competitions for those eliminated in the early rounds each day.

The organiser is keen to point out that, to take part, you don’t need to be a star player. The event is set up to give players as much Fives as they can stand, with numerous plate and other competitions, and the energy used whilst playing can be replenished by consuming the copious food provided by the organiser and his helpers.

The last time the competition was held in Marlborough it had a huge entry, which generated a fabulous atmosphere for the whole weekend. John would like to see an even bigger event this year, as there must be many players who qualify for this event for the first time this year.
