South East Open Championships

Christ’s Hospital School, Horsham, 18/19th August

Organiser Ed Hatton is accepting entries for the South East Open Championships. Now in their fifth year, the events will be held at Christ’s Hospital School over the weekend of August 18/19th. It’s always an exciting event, with the possibility of some shock results. Last year, for instance, Ed Kay beat Will Ellison for the first time in an open singles competition, while Nick Woolfenden & Tim Hebblethwaite (above) picked up their first doubles titles.

As in previous years, the 2018 championships will include a singles tournament on the Saturday and a doubles tournament on the Sunday. Both will have plate competitions, and the doubles will follow a ‘handicap’ format similar to the Scottish Open – the strongest players will play with the weakest, with mid-ranked players partnered together. And, if there is sufficient interest, there could be a meal for players and supporters on the Saturday night, probably in Horsham.

Closing date for entries is Monday August 13th, and Ed promises that full details of the championships will be issued to all competitors later on during that week.
