Yorkshire Open Fives Tournament

Giggleswick School, October 15/16th

Organiser John Hawke is now accepting entries for the Yorkshire Open Fives tournament. After the success of last two years’ events, which included a singles championship alongside the well-established doubles event, the 2016 tournament will again feature both singles and doubles championships. However, in contrast to most other Fives tournaments, the doubles will be played on the Saturday, with the singles on the Sunday.

The championships will be held at Giggleswick School, and in addition to the Cup competitions, there will also be at least one plate competition on each day.

Entries should be received by the organiser by Wednesday 12th October, and he intends to distribute a draw by email on Friday 14th October. In the absence of agreement on a later starting time, play is expected to start by 10:30 am on the Saturday, and 9:00 am on the Sunday. Lifts from Giggleswick and Settle stations can be arranged, and, if three or four entrants require it, from Lancaster station.

If you wish to play, but do not have a partner, the organiser will endeavour to find you one. What’s more, he also guarantees that copious food and drink will be provided during the hours of play on both days; and, after the Tournament, the members of the White Rose Club hope that players will join them in sampling some traditional Yorkshire hospitality. Dinner can be arranged in the evening, and accommodation can be recommended for those not wishing to drive after sampling the ever-popular local beers.
