Rankings after the North West and U25 Championships

News

This is the time of year when results from 2 seasons ago drop off the singles rankings radar – good news for some, not so good for others! So the list is slightly shorter since we lose one or two who have been clinging on based on that good result in the 2013-14 season. The changes in both lists are not dramatic since the North West event had quite a small entry, and the Under 25 event, although a superb entry, carries reduced points since it is not an open competition. Will Ellison and Dan Tristao maintain healthy leads at the top of both lists with Will retaining a slight edge in the Singles, whilst Dan retains his narrow lead in the Doubles.

In the top ten of the Singles, Ben Beltrami, who reached the NW semi-finals and the U25 final, overtakes Matt Cavanagh at No. 5, while Julian Aquilina moves up to number 9 following strong performances in both events. Matt Shaw at No. 12 closes in on the top ten after a good win against David Butler in the U25s. Elsewhere, Rob Whitehorn is the highest riser moving up 15 places to No. 37 following his U25 Plate victory, while Sid Bhushan enters the rankings for the first time after beating Anthony Goodwin in the U25 Plate.

The Doubles sees NW Champion Dan Grant (with Will Ellison) overtake Ed Kay at No. 3, while U25 Champion Matt Shaw (with Ed Kay) moves up 2 places to No. 7. Adam George & Peter Hanton, and Julian Aquilina (who partnered Ed Kay), all benefit from reaching the NW semi-finals. Lower down the list, Sid Bhushan and Chris Davey move up significantly after reaching the U25 quarter-finals.

The next full rankings update will be at the end of season (after the Scottish Championships) and this will include the forthcoming North of England event. However, I plan to do an update to the Doubles following the National Doubles in  April.
