The Jesters Club

The Jesters Club

The Jesters Club was co-founded in 1928 by Jock Burnet while he was a student at St. Paul’s School. Initially it was a Rugby Fives playing Club – Jock was a top player at school – but quickly expanded to include the four other sports it now also plays: Eton Fives, Squash, Rackets and Real Tennis.

The Club’s aim is to promote these sports, especially at the younger levels, and encourage people to play. However, as the name suggests, there is also a light-hearted and social aspect to the Jesters, whose members are expected to play ‘in a spirit not unworthy of the name of the Club’.

In recent years the Jesters Club has sought to support Fives through a variety of channels, including grants towards new courts and offering younger players travel subsidies.

Many Fives players, past and present, are members of the Jesters Club. If you wish for more information please contact Charlie Brooks, the Rugby Fives representative on the Jesters Committee, through the ‘Contact us’ page.
